How long is a lesson?

Lessons vary in length from 30 to 45 minutes. 45 minutes provides an ideal choice, giving enough time to cover all aspects of musical development, and is necessary past Grade 1 to adequately cover the longer repertoire and more in-depth knowledge required. It could also be used to explore other aspects of music, such as playing by ear or music theory. 30 minutes is generally suitable for beginning students in the first year of learning.

Piano lessons for adults

Who are lessons suitable for?

Adults of any age can begin or continue to learn the piano, whether or not you have any previous musical experience.

Where do lessons take place?

All lessons take place in Old Farm Park, MK7.

Online lessons are also possible.

When can I have my lesson?

Lessons are available on weekdays, including some evenings, as well as Saturdays. Please get in touch to find out current availability.

How long is a lesson?

Adult students can choose between a weekly lesson for either 30 or 45 minutes or a fortnightly lesson for 45 minutes.

The option you choose will depend on your goals. Longer lessons provide more time to cover all aspects of musical development more fully or to explore playing by ear, music theory or creative activities. Fortnightly lessons are a popular choice with adult students, who appreciate the time to work independently for longer between lessons.

Theory course

This is an online video course to learn music theory and prepare for ABRSM Grade 1 in only one term. It is different to other video courses as each video contains interactive activities to develop understanding, just like a real lesson. It also includes marking and feedback. Further grades will be available in the future.

The course consists of 12 lessons, and by the end you will have the knowledge to complete Grade 1 theory. Every week, you will receive an interactive video to watch. This will contain visual explanations of topics, with activities to complete. You will then be directed to complete some independent activities, which you will email for marking and feedback by a set date before proceeding with the next lesson. This way you will remain motivated and on-track to complete the course. If you have instrumental lessons, it also means you can focus more on your playing during lessons, whilst also covering vital theory concepts.

Who is the course suitable for?

Anyone learning any musical instrument who wants to improve their knowledge of music theory.
